From June 17 to June 21, 2026, the historic village of San Quirico d’Orcia travels back in time with the traditional Festa del Barbarossa, one of the most fascinating medieval festivals in Tuscany, held in the heart of the Val d’Orcia.
For five days, the streets and squares of the village transform into a vibrant medieval setting, where the Emperor, cardinals, nobles, soldiers, and townspeople parade in historical costumes. The highlight of the festival is the competition between the four historic districts of the town — Borgo, Canneti, Castello, and Prato — which compete to win the prestigious “Brocche dell’Imperatore” through exciting archery contests and spectacular flag-throwing performances.
Throughout the event, visitors can experience the authentic atmosphere of the Middle Ages thanks to medieval taverns, street performances, music, and historical reenactments.
