Wine and Oil tastings of the Val d’Orcia

A stay in Val d’Orcia is the right occasion for a tasting of wines from Tuscany and its typical products!

At the Palazzuolo Hotel it is possible to taste products of the Simonelli-Santi Estate, located in the heart of the Val d’Orcia Natural and Cultural Artistic Park, in the Municipalities of San Quirico d ‘Orcia, Pienza and Castiglione d’Orcia, in the south of the province of Siena.

For more than ten generations the Simonelli-Saints have been realizing their love for the countryside and the land in the production of high quality wines and a precious Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Val d’Orcia gives origin to important quality red wines that are obtained with Sangiovese grapes and boast considerable appreciations.

The Orcia Doc denomination was born in February 2000 and is a flagship for Tuscan oenology thanks to the indigenous grape variety, traditional processing techniques, commitment and passion for a land rich in flavors and a centuries-old tradition.

The Simonelli-Santi Estate in their vines planted at 400 meters high, in the Artistic and Natural Park of the Val d’Orcia, produce two Orcia Doc wines:

Orcia Doc Malintoppo

It is obtained from Sangiovese vinified in purity and the maceration is 18 – 20 days. After racking, the wine is ready for aging in stainless steel and wooden barrels for 9 months and 2 months in bottle.

Orcia Doc Antonio

It comes from the vinification of Sangiovese at 80% and Cabernet Sauvignon at 20% and in this wine the maceration lasts 23 – 25 days. For aging, the wine remains 4 months in stainless steel barrels, 8 months in oak barriques and 4 months in bottle.
In the magical atmosphere of the cellar, made of silence, constant scents and temperatures, aging occurs: the two wines mature, take shape, aroma and taste.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the Val d’Orcia

Another top product of the farm is the Extra Virgin Olive Oil, still produced with the ancient traditional methods of discontinuous cold pressing. The authentic stone millstones, or mills, perform a slow and regular pressing without any increase in the temperature of the pasta, creating a sweet and harmonious oil. Thanks to this ancient and suggestive processing in stone millstones, our oil has a high content of polyphenols, it is a fruity oil and stable over time, particularly indicated with neutral dishes, not very aromatic, to be able to fully appreciate its characteristics (bruschetta , salads, vegetables ..).

In tasting its products the Simoneli Santi Estate brings to its guests the flavours of a great land and the passion of extraordinary men.
